Making A Quick Axe Sheath

Cut a   length of raw hide to cover the edge with a minor overlap on both sides when folded. Use the thickest hide you can find for this application.
Soak the rawhide piece until saturated and cut slits on the edge of both sides.
Find a long piece of rope or thong and wrap as shown, ensuring all holes are used.

Once dry, unwrap and shove a thick piece of buckskin or other leather in the slot to reinforce the edge location.
You need to thread only a few of the holes for everyday removal and sheathing.

Use common sense. For heavy hatchets, use the thickest rawhide you can find and double it over. Add additional thick leather to the welt.
