Warning on Rubber Boots

I don’t often use store-bought footwear, but when the temperatures are near zero, the snow is melting, so moccasins turn to sponges. Rubber is my current go-to.
With any rubber-soled boot and mild temperature, you may be tempted to wear them overnight and/or outside your sleep cover.

I've received worse frostbite in near 0 temp with damp rubber over my foot than in -20°C with frosty fur in a breathable moc on my foot.

If you aren’t moving, the moisture within will freeze, and the boot will turn into a small freezer for your foot. ALWAYS be prepared to remove rubber-soled boots overnight and cover your two feet, together, with a breathable and dry layered material.

The moisture that will accumulate means many problems during the day too. When the temperatures are freezing and you need to wear something on your foot, it MUST be made of a mostly breathable material. Do NOT attempt to wear a rubber boot in below-freezing temperatures for an extended period.

If its at freezing temperatures and rubber is your only option, you must make an effort to cut dry grass and lace the inside of the boot, replacing it daily to help keep your feet warm and dry.

Rubber boots are really only a want in soaking cold; even then, the boot will amplify the sounds of ice and snow scrunching.
